I added four small tools and skills to my setup for Claude Code and other coding agents. Each one handles a specific annoyance during agent runs: sleep interruptions, formulaic writing, prototype hosting, and planning blind spots.

Four tools that changed how my coding agents work. Watch on YouTube

Most friction in agent workflows is not the model’s core intelligence. It is the simple operational problems around it, like a laptop going to sleep mid-task or a throwaway test build of my own.

Caffeine stops your Mac from sleeping during long agent runs

Caffeine is a small macOS utility. It sits in your menu bar and prevents your computer from sleeping while your coding agent runs.

The interface is simple. When the coffee cup icon is full, it is active. When the cup is empty, it is inactive.

If you right-click the icon, you get options to run it on a timer or use an agent watch mode. That mode keeps the machine awake as long as the agent is actively working.

No AI Slop strips out typical model phrasing

No AI Slop is a skill by the GitHub user petergyang. It removes common writing patterns and constructions that AI models fall into, making generated text sound more natural.

The patterns it targets exist across languages. I tested it in Italian, and it worked well there too. It cleans up the phrasing before the output gets used.

here.now replaces manual Netlify deploys for quick previews

Coding agents frequently generate HTML pages, prototypes, and standalone files. In the past, I published these temporary tests to Netlify.

here.now gives your agent a way to publish those files and return a temporary link. You can open that link on another device or send it to someone else to check.

The links expire and clean themselves up after 24 hours. That makes it more convenient than a permanent host when you only need a throwaway preview.

Blindspot Pass surfaces edge cases before you start editing

Blindspot Pass is a skill designed for areas where you are not an expert. Before you start building, it asks the questions an expert would ask.

It is particularly useful right before making a large change to your codebase. Running it first highlights landmines and things you did not know you were missing, before you start the change.

What to copy

  • Keep your machine awake automatically so long agent runs do not stall out halfway through.
  • Use a dedicated prompt or skill pass to remove stock AI writing patterns, even when writing in languages other than English.
  • Use self-expiring hosting for prototypes instead of publishing throwaway builds to your normal hosting.
  • Run a blind spot check before kicking off large refactors in unfamiliar code.

Tools

  • Caffeine: Mac menu bar utility to keep your machine awake while an agent runs.
  • No AI Slop: Skill to clean up default AI writing patterns.
  • here.now: 24-hour temporary hosting for agent-generated pages and files.
  • Blindspot Pass: Planning skill to catch hidden issues before building.
